Prior to submitting my name for council, I spoke to a number of neighbours and people I work with to see if what I thought was important, was also important to them. Surprisingly, there were numerous concerns that were shared by all. Some of those I've addressed here:

Fiscal Clarity:

I want to bring responsible spending and sound financial management to our district. We have to be transparent, we cannot continue constantly increasing property taxes year after year. Us residents deserve a voice before decisions are made, not after. Council needs to be accountable for decisions made. My goal is financial discipline; residents of Coldstream deserve better than what they have been getting from local government. We cannot ask to pay more taxes without clarity, consultation and long term vision. Whether it's taxes, housing or other projects;  leadership has to listen.

Water Security:

Water limits our ability to grow as a community and continue to meet the municipal needs. If I am elected as a councillor for the District, I would ensure we work with other Okanagan communities in revising the rules for reclaimed water. Starting with replacing old metres and pipes as well as repairing leaks. Helping farmers, orchards, ranchers and any other agricultural businesses in securing grants and better irrigation technology should be a priority.

Community Development:

Coldstream and Lavington are perfect places to live. But, if you want to get a pizza, there’s no where to go. If you need office space, there’s no where to go. If you want to buy a tasty fresh cappuccino, there’s no where to go. There might be one, maybe two places, but this limits community growth. We need to understand why those resources aren’t here. Community development has to be a priority.

District Safety:

It's all well and good to fortify Kal Lake road in front of the council building but it seems other neighbourhoods in Coldstream and Lavington aren't afforded the same traffic control. There have been multiple requests for speed control at Lavington Elementary, Centennial park and the skating rink, which people are still waiting for a response. These taxpayers deserve to be listened to. Community safety must be a priority.
